of creating a computer-based database of all its transmission and
distribution network of Riyadh City. The project includes the following
Mapping data capture
Supply, installation and operation of GIS hardware and software
Systems design and development
Systems integration and data migration
Support and maintenance
Upon the successful completion of the project, similar implementations will
be rolled in other parts of the Kingdom.
SEC has also contracted SSC with Oracle CASE tools, and the study and
development of Fault and Load database system.
The government has taken concrete steps towards restructuring and
privatizing the power sector in order to make it more efficient and
economically viable. Saudi Arabia?s ten regional power companies have been
consolidated into a single joint-stock company, the Saudi Electricity
Company (SEC), in order to expedite the streamlining of the sector?s
operations. Capitalized at SR33.75 billion (approximately $9 billion), the
new power company is to be self-supported, independent from the government,
and in charge of bringing about the necessary capacity increase planned for
the year 2020. A strategy to unbundle the power sector into transmission,
generation, and distribution is also under review by the Saudi government.
This tremendous potential for growth makes the Kingdom one of the world?s
most attractive markets for power generation, as well as for power
transmission and distribution equipment.
