A comprehensive
Document Management System for King Fahd National Library
Saudi Systems Corporation (SSC) has developed an electronic document
management system for King Fahd National Library under the tutelage of Al-Turath
Foundation.
Primarily, the project
aims to archive electronically a collection of 30,000 historical images. The
project marks the centennial anniversary of the foundation of the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia.
With this, SSC developed a database that will serve as a comprehensive archive
system. The database created by SSC is customized and
implemented based on Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
applications.
The system has the capability to scan, retrieve, index, and print
electronic files that can be carried out easily via a user-friendly
software. A RAID system is used to store the images.
A compilation of about 30,000 historical photos went through successful
retouching and cleaning using Adobe Photoshop.
The system's hardware is composed of a
network of two servers, five workstations and printers.
Four library personnel went through a
training session to familiarize themselves with the system.
